Lt. Col. Vincent Tirri has been serving in the New Jersey Army National Guard as a 19A Calvary Officer since 1998 and is Bergen County’s Veteran of the Month!
Lt. Col. Vincent Tirri is a figure of steadfast dedication and exemplary service within the United States Army National Guard. Residing in the tranquil Township of Washington, New Jersey, Lt. Col. Tirri has devoted 26 years to the military, serving with distinction as a 19A Calvary Officer.
At the heart of his current role, he leads as the Commander of the Recruiting and Retention Battalion at Camp Sea Girt, New Jersey. His leadership is not just confined to the administrative aspects of his position but extends to the battlefield as well. Lt. Col. Tirri is a combat veteran, having served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, where his valor and strategic acumen were put to the test.
He also participated various other operations in the U.S. and Kosovo, in 2006 being part of Operation Jump Start in Playas, New Mexico as a Platoon Leader and Operations Officer, in 2012 in the Humanitarian Relief Operations after Superstorm Sandy, Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico, and in 2019 in Operation Joint Guardman at Camp Bondsteel in Kosovo.
His career is marked by a series of pivotal roles that have shaped the fabric of the New Jersey Army National Guard (NJARNG). He has been the backbone of the Full-time Support Staff for the 1st Battalion, 114th Infantry Regiment, and has managed the enlisted strength with a keen eye as the Commander in the Recruiting and Retention Battalion. His strategic insight was further recognized in his roles as the Deputy Director for Personnel for NJARNG, the Personnel Officer for the 44th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, and as the Assistant Chief of Staff, Army.
Lt. Col. Tirri’s academic background is as impressive as his military career. A proud alumnus of Rutgers University, he has not only secured a bachelor’s degree in history but has also achieved a Master of Arts for Teachers in History, and a Master of Human Resources Management and Personnel Administration. His educational pursuits have undoubtedly contributed to his strategic and people-centric approach to military leadership.
His service has not gone unrecognized; among his many accolades, he has been honored with the Bronze Star Medal (2009), the Meritorious Service Medal (2017, 2020), the Iraq Campaign Medal (2009), the Humanitarian Service Medal (2012, 2017) and the NATO Non-Article 5 Medal (2020).
He is active in the local community, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6192, and Northern New Jersey Council of Scouting America.

Bergen County Division of Veteran Services
The Division of Veterans Services was established in 1977 to provide resident veterans and their dependents with information and assistance in obtaining earned entitlements from federal, state, and local governments, as well as any that are available from the private sector.
Through a quarterly newsletter and direct client contact, the division provides Bergen’s veterans organizations and their auxiliaries and individual residents with up-to-date benefit information.
