Jarrett Milligan enlisted in the United States Navy in 2000, serving for 6 years. Jarrett was a Damage Controlman and left the Navy in 2006 as a Petty Officer 2nd Class.
After his service, Jarrett went on to receive a B.S. in Fire Science from New Jersey City University. He utilized his military background, college degree, passion for construction, and his firsthand experience as a firefighter for the Carlstadt Fire Department to obtain a job with Skanska. Currently, Jarrett is the Vice President of Environment Health Safety for the Northeast Region at Skanska.
As Jarrett frequently states, “in the military, you have to be courageous, and working safely in construction is pretty courageous.” It was this thought process that led Jarrett to spearhead Skanska’s initiative to provide tailor-made personal protective equipment (PPE) for women in the construction workforce. While women make up 9.9% of the construction industry’s workforce, the majority of PPE had previously been designed for men. The new tailor-made PPE available to all Skanksa female employees not only enhances their safety, but provides an inclusive environment and acknowledges the critical role that women perform every single day in the construction industry.
Outside of work, Jarrett is a dedicated public servant. Since 1998, he has been an active member of the Carlstadt Fire Department, an all-volunteer force, including serving as the Department’s Assistant Chief.
Jarrett is married to his lovely wife, Jen Milligan, who is a Carlstadt Public School math teacher and together they have two beautiful daughters, Quinn and Nora. Jarrett is running for local public office this year with the hope that he can continue to give back to the amazing residents of Carlstadt.
