Decorated US Air Force combat veteran Colonel Peter P. Gitto, a lifetime resident of Franklin Lakes, New Jersey. He was honored by the Franklin Lakes mayor and council on the occasion of his 100th birthday on August 3, 2021. 

Colonel Gitto served his country in World War II and the Korean War. As a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps in 1944, he was assigned to the famed “Flying Tigers” and engaged in aerial combat (B-25 Bomber Aircraft) against the Japanese in the China-Burma-India Theater of Operations.

On behalf of all of Bergen County, we wish Colonel Gitto the happiest of birthdays and offer our sincere thanks for his service, his heroism, and his courage in the face of adversity.
