Private First Class Anthony John Lopa, a native of North Arlington, New Jersey, is honored as Bergen County’s Veteran of the Month for the month of September!
PFC Lopa bravely served his country during the Korean War as a member of the Delta Battery, 82nd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion, 2nd Infantry Division.
At Just 17-years-old, PFC Lopa was killed in action on August 31, 1950, while fighting along the Naktong River in South Korea.
His sacrifice is a poignant reminder of the courage and dedication of our young soldiers. After decades of being listed as missing in action, his remains were identified and accounted for on July 21, 2023.
PFC Lopa was laid to rest with full military honors at Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ, on June 28, 2024.
His legacy of bravery and services continues to inspire and remind us of the profound sacrifices made by our veterans.

Bergen County Division of Veteran Services
The Division of Veterans Services was established in 1977 to provide resident veterans and their dependents with information and assistance in obtaining earned entitlements from federal, state, and local governments, as well as any that are available from the private sector.
Through a quarterly newsletter and direct client contact, the division provides Bergen’s veterans organizations and their auxiliaries and individual residents with up-to-date benefit information.
