Kamilla Miguel grew up in Little Ferry, New Jersey.  The daughter of Colombian immigrants and a first generation American, she decided to join the United States military to serve her country. She served from 2007 to 2011 as a 25Q Multichannel Transmission Systems Operator-Maintainer, including one tour of duty in Afghanistan from 2010 to 2011.

During her enlistment, Kamilla was responsible for the installation, reparation, operation, and maintenance checks of antennas and associated equipment. During the latter part of her career as an non-commissioned officer, she worked as a supervisor. She supervised operations and assisted team members in the installation and operation of multichannel line-of-site and tropospheric scatter communications systems in garrison and the field. Kamilla left the military with the rank of Sergeant.

Like many other veterans, Kamilla struggled to transition to civilian life. She took a year off to focus on herself.  After the year, she attended Passaic County Community College. After graduating from there, Kamilla pursued her Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s of Business Administration at Fairleigh Dickinson University. While pursuing her studies, she dedicated herself to helping the veterans in our community. She served as a VA work-study with the New Jersey Division of Military and Veteran Affairs office in Hackensack and then moved to the Bergen County Division of Veteran Services (DVS) office. While interning at DVS, Kamilla assisted with Bergen County veteran events and aided homeless veterans in obtaining permanent housing. She was constantly commended by her fellow veterans for her compassion and commitment.

After her time at DVS, she interned as a Facilities Coordinator at Movado Group before gaining full-time employment with the Department of Veteran Affairs. She currently works as a veteran benefits administrator at the Newark Regional Office of the Department of Veteran Affairs. She has been with in the agency for almost 4 years.  Everyday, she strives to ensure that all veterans receive the benefits that they rightfully deserve.

She just bought her first home in Fair Lawn, where she lives with her fiancé, Justin, and their 3 cats.

Thank you for your service, Kamilla!
